R.S.B.B,pod Grand Opening! 2001.8.17
The Reading Session is essentially just that- actors reciting texts
before an audience. Their range of expression limited to just pronunciation,
timing, intonation, etc., these performers attempt to breathe new life
into existing written works.
This was at least the initial focus of the Reading Session, formed
in spring of 1995 by actor Masanobu Takashima, director Kojiro Kaneko,
and writer Kinya Kawakami. Since then the performances have evolved a bit;
certain qualities remained the same while others continuously changed.
Before we knew it we were holding the 11th session in February of this
year.
Think of the Reading Session as a workshop, for both the actors and
the audience, both sides hoping to take something away from each new
experience. To this end, we try to be as experimental and innovative
as possible, and achieving this goal is a constant challenge.
The links below should
help you better understand what the Reading Session is all about, its
content, where it came from, and where it is headed. We hope this web
page stimulates further interest in Reading Session.
